A Shot Of Rhythm `n´ Soul |

The Vampires started out in 1964 as a Shadows-styled instrumental band. With the beginning of the beat era the band followed the new sound, appearing at the famous Star-Club and winning several Battle Of The Bands contests. In 1966 the group moved to Spain, and released a number of 45s and EPs on the Session label. When the irresistible wave of mid-'60s soul swept from the United States all over the globe, the Vampires went into a new direction again. Fascinated and inspired by the straight groove and powerful horn-dominated sound, Det Ferring (vocals, tracks 1-3), Joe Schilken (vocals, track 4), Micky Kluge (drums), Wolfgang Jünger (bass) and Paul Waldhecker (saxophone & arrangements) set their feet on new musical ground.
"Supported by the horn section of Spanish band Los Canarios, and the organ player from British combo, The Mode, we recorded four tracks in Madrid´s CIMA studios under, from todays point of view, most primitive technical circumstances. While track one and four are self-arranged versions of well known soul titles, the other two recordings are group originals, written by Det and Joe". Following these recordings, the band underwent several personnel changes before re-establishing themselves as Evolution. Under that name they recorded a highly collectable progressive album, that was recently rereleased on the Spanish Wah Wah label. "After more than 30 years, I discovered the master of the 1967 CIMA recordings in a box with old band photos and took it to a friend´s studio. With the help of today's modern sound techniques, the tape has been restored without losing its original sound quality. A unique musical document of the '60s - now finally released on Break-A-Way Records". Stated by Wolfgang Jünger,
