Texas: A sizzling hotbed of '60s garage punk bands, that seemed raunchier, crazier - more intense - than those of the smaller states. A great many Texan garage 45s are hailed as seething, unsurpassed classics of the genre. The Heard's incendiary 1967 effort, Exit 9/You're Gonna Miss me has long been acknowleged as one of the very finest. In their stomping grounds of Longview, TX, the Heard briefly rubbed shoulders with an altogether more obscure combo, the Only Ones. |

Somehow managing to elude mention in the comprehensive Texas garage-psych discography Journey To Tyme, the Only Ones are only now emerging from the hazy mists of antiquity. Their sole 1966 45, Another Place/You Can't Trust A Woman turns out to be in the same league as the more familar Lone Star greats - including the Heard. The Heard and Only Ones 45s were initially pressed in quantities of just 500 each, and today command hefty sums on the collectors' market. Break-a-Way Records is pleased to present these two Longview legends on one platter for the enjoyment of all. |
